  Scottish Country Dance Classes    2007-2008


Summer 2008 there will be a Summer Class series held in Seattle at the Phinney Neighborhood Center.  Click on "Summer Class series" for more information.

Introductory, Intermediate, Challenge and Additional Classes take the summer months off and commence again in September. 

Introductory Classes:

  • Tuesdays - Seattle East Side. Introductory class, 7:00 - 8:30 PM. Kirkland Woman's Club, 407 First Street, Kirkland, WA. Information: contact Elinor  (425) 488-7643.  Multiple teachers.

  • Wednesdays - Mukilteo. General class, especially introductory, 7:00 - 9:00 PM, Rose Hill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Street, Mukilteo, WA. Teacher: Irene Paterson.         Information:  (425) 438-8977.

  • Thursdays - New Beginner Class starting in February 2008.  Located at Shoreline Historical Museum.  From 7:30 - 9:30 pm.  The Feb. schedule is February 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th.  Cost for new dancers is $24.00 for the 4 weeks of Feb.  The location, time, etc. may be changed in March if the dancers wish to.  If you are going to Shoreline Historical Museum for the first time,  see the map.  When you arrive, go around and park on the south side of the building and enter there.  The class is up the first flight of stairs.  Questions - email Leslie at      vicechair@rscds-seattle.org or call  Clark at 206-623-8188

Intermediate Classes:

 Challenge Class:

  • First  Friday of month Shoreline Historical Museum,   7:30 - 9:30 PM.   749 North 175th St., Shoreline, WA (North of downtown Seattle, WA.)  Live music. Information: Elinor (425) 488-7643.  Look at  the Calendar to see who the monthly musician will be.

          Cost is $8. for all participants for each class.  (no passes/tickets, no
          student discount).

          Class focuses on technique - not just "what" to do, but "how" to dance
          (improving
teamwork, etc.). Participants are expected to be able to
          dance
          all steps proficiently,   readily dance all standard figures, and have been
          introduced to more advanced figures.  D
ancers should be able to do a
         
dance from just a briefing.  

          There is usually live music and the hat is passed to help them with costs.

Additional Classes:

  • Tacoma. General class, 7:30 - 9:30 PM., twice per month on Fridays. Held at  Normanna Hall (Sons of Norway), 1106 S. 15th St., Tacoma, WA. 
    The  schedule is as follows:

    Mar.     14,  28
    Apr.      11, 25
    May        9, 23

    Cost is $8. per class night.

  • Mondays (2nd & 4th ea. month) - Wenatchee, WA Washington Elementary School, 1401 Washington Street, Wenatchee, WA. 7:00 - 9:00 PM. Following Labor Day holiday through June.   Beginners welcome at any time.  $2 per class.   • Sundays (2nd & 4th ea. month) - Port Townsend, WA.  Newly begun classes in Feb. 08, held at the Quimper Grange Hall, 1219 Corona St., Port Townsend, led by Mike H.  Call him for more info. (360) 531-1723.
    1:30 - 3:30 PM.

  • Mondays - Enumclaw, WA. - Plateau Scottish Country Dancers. 7 - 9 PM. Danish Hall, 1708 Porter St., Enumclaw, WA.  See their site for more information.

Class Fees and Schedule:

RSCDS Branch Classes dates and fees follow.  They are different for Kirkland and Mukilteo.

Kirkland Class - Winter & Spring 2008   Held on Tuesdays

    Jan 8 - Mar 25   

    Apr 1 - May 6  Note the last class date has changed! 

    Cost is $8. per class night, or you can buy a Pass. Ask your class
    rep.
 

   

Mukilteo Class - Winter & Spring  2008     Held on Wednesdays

    Same as for Kirkland above except the last class date is May 7th.

 Fee for a single evening attendance at a second location if you have a
 Pass is $4. (applies to member and non-member passes).

Classes for the whole year generally run from September  through May, with quarter breaks in late December and mid March unless as noted.

Monthly Dances & Special Events Fees:

Effective 1-1-2008, fees for monthly dances and special events per person   are as below.    Fees are the same for members and non-members. 

Monthly Dances with recorded music fee: $10.00

Monthly Dance with live music fee:  $14.00 (except Burns night)

Burns Night:  $12.00 for all adults.  Teens will be $10.00.  Children 6-12 will be $6.00.  Under 6 yrs are no charge.  Contact the Branch chairman via email  president@rscds-seattle.org  if you wish further direct information.

 

 Summer Dancing in Seattle - 2008

 The summer class will be as follows:

 June  4, 11, 18, 25  (June 25 will be walkthrough for Crossroads)
 July 2, 9, 19, 23
 Aug. 6, 13, 20, 27
 Sept. 3, 9 (Sept. 3 will be walkthrough for Ft. Worden Ball dances)

 Cost  to be announced. It will be at the Phinney Neighborhood Center.
