2008

May 2 (Fri.) - Challenge Class offered
by Seattle Branch RSCDS with Elinor V. as our dance
leader. Located at Shoreline
Museum, in Shoreline, just north of Seattle.
7:30 - 9:30 PM Calum MacKinnon and students will be playing
for this class. See Classes

4 (Sun.) - Thistle Ball Walk-through at Mercer Island Community
Center. 2 - 4 PM. 8236 SE 24th St., Mercer Island, WA.
You can come for the dancing even if you are not attending the
Ball. The dances will be reviews.

6 (Tues.) - Last class for Kirkland for the spring.
May
7 (Wed.) - Last class for Mukilteo for the spring.
May 8
(Thurs.) - Beginner Class that started in February will
continue until the end of the month (also May 15, 22, and 29th).
Located at Shoreline Historical Museum.

workshop for 30ish and under, Vancouver, BC

10 (Sat.) - 4th Annual Thistle Ball, hosted by Vancouver B.C.
Branch of RSCDS. Music will be by Neil Copland and his band from
Scotland. Edna MacKinnon has tickets for this event for
sale. Price is $75.00 each. Something new this year. Your
ticket purchased is your cue book for the Ball which you get when you
buy your ticket. Thus you can start reviewing your dances for the
event right away. Mary Anderson and Karen Marshall also have
tickets if you wish. The Vancouver
website now has a list of local places to stay.

17-18 - Victoria Highland Games.

23 - 26 (Fri. - Mon.) Northwest Folklife Festival at the Seattle Center.
Performances and workshops by many dance groups. RSCDS-Seattle
will have a workshop on Monday, May 26 from 4 - 4:50 PM
in the Olympic Room. Clark C. will host with live music - the
Bramble Band.

27 (Tues.) - Seattle Branch AGM
for all Seattle RSCDS members. Come and support your current and
new Board. It will be at the Kirkland class location we use now,
at 7:30, but come a few minutes early to read reports of chairman,
etc.

June 4 (Wed.) - Summer season dancing in Seattle begins.
Located at the Phinney Neighborhood
Center, Seattle, in the upper building from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. This will be every Wednesday through to
Sept. 3. (June 11, 18, 25, July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, Aug. 6, 13,
20, 27 and Sept. 3)

June 7 - 8 - Bellingham Highland Games.

28 (Sat.) - Puget Sound Crossroads , located at the Grange Hall,
152-1st Street N., Friday Harbor, WA. (San Juan Island)
Music by Brian Crisafulli and Friends. Co-hosted by
Seattle and Friday Harbor. Dancing will begin about 12:45
PM to about 4:30 PM.
Dancers - $8.00; Students - $5.00. All dances will be talked
through. Save
the date for this great summertime event. The program is

here. The dance Breakish Postie,
which is not in any published location can be found by clicking on Breakish.
There will be more ferry info. later when the schedule is out.
We welcome Jamie Orr's pipes to our traditional walk up the hill from
the ferry to the Grange Hall. For those returning on the 4:30ish
ferry to Anacortes, there will be a group gathering for food and
drinks at the Rock Fish Grill in Anacortes. If you wish to stay
over at Friday Harbor, contact Bill P. for help with billets.

28 - 29 (Sat. - Sun.) - 2008 Truckee Workshop & Dance, in
Truckee, CA., with Elaine Brunken teaching Sat. and a hike of Lock
Leven Trailhead on Sun. More

- July
12 - 13 (Sat. - Sun.) - Skagit Highland Games in Mt. Vernon.
There will be participation dancing with the Skagit Scottish Dancers
at their stage.

18 - 19 - Portland Scottish Highland Games.

26 - 27 (Sat. - Sun.) - Pacific Northwest Highland Games, King
Co. Fairgrounds, Enumclaw. There will be an
incredible SCD event this year on Saturday the 26th at about 5:00 PM
just before the Closing Ceremonies of the day when the Massed Pipe Bands play.
All SCD groups in the Northwest are invited to join for this display
of "Dancing Scottish"! There will be 2 dances done
by all: EH37AF from RSCDS Book 40 and The De'il Amang the
Tailors from RSCDS Book 14. Each participating SCD group will
be a "team" on the field. Further information and to
sign up is via Elinor at 425-488-7643. Come join us for this
great event.

August 2008
- Aug. 2 - Summer Dancing by the Lake with Lin and Judith
Wilson. Begins at 1:00 pm with dancing starting at 2:00 pm and a
potluck after. More on this later.
- Aug. 2 - Spokane Highland Games.
- Aug. 9 - Whidbey Island Highland Games.
- Aug. 3 - Aug. 17 - TAC (Teachers Association Canada)
will be having Candidate classes at Wilfrid Laurier University,
Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Applications to be in by April
1, 2008. Talk to our teacher, Irene P. for more
information about this quickly if you are interested or look at the TAC
site for information and forms.
Principle
teachers are Janet Johnston from Edinburgh Scotland, Val Mitchell
from Hastings, New Zealand and Geoffrey Selling from Philadelphia.
Bobby Brown and the Scottish Accent will be playing for the Ball on
August 16.

Ft. Worden 2008. Save the weekend for our annual dancing
workshop. Classes, Ball, and a great weekend retreat. Go to the Ft.

Oct. 3 - 5, 2008 (Fri. - Sun.) -
Saskatchewan Branch RSCDS Branch Workshop Weekend at Manitou
Beach, near Watrous, Saskatchewan. Our own Elinor Vandegrift
along with John Middleton are teaching this workshop. Music by Ron
Krug and Ken Nattrass. This resort weekend is at Manitou Springs
