November 2014

  • Nov. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 (Sun.) - Redmond's Fall Qtr. classes are at the DanceWorks Studio, 16641 Redmond Way, Redmond WA., from 6:30 - 8:30pm.   See the Classes page of this website for time, cost and contact info to reach Lea M. if you have further questions.
     

  • Nov. 4, 11, 18, 25 (Tues.) - U-District classes are at the University Heights Building, 5031 University Way NE, classroom 108, from 8:00 - 9:55pm.  Teacher is Rachel P.  Open to all, new and returning.  Details on the Classes page of this website, rates and contact if you wish to reach Rachel. And the season will end with 12/2 and 12/9.  On Nov. 25, Ian Sullivan will be guest teaching. This is a fast paced class for energetic dancers!
     

  • Nov. 5, 12, 19 (Wed.) - Scottish Country Dance Classes at Lake Forest Park from 7:15 -9:30 PM. weekly (At the Northwest Ballet Center, 17171 Bothell Way NE, Lake Forest Park Towne Center.  Questions:  Call 425.488.7643)   Newcomers are welcome - your first class is free.  A partner is not necessary; wear comfy clothes and soft indoor shoes.  Enjoy fun, fitness and friendship.   Teacher is Elinor V.  Further information on the Classes page.    No class on Nov. 26.

  • Nov. 6, 13, 20 (Thur.) - Wenatchee Scottish Dance Classes will continue on Thursdays at the Irish Dance Studio , 151 Worthen St, Wenatchee,   from 6:30 - 8:30 PM.  Classes page has further info.  Talk to Lesley A. teacher (509.663.3743).
     

  • Nov. 7-9 (Fri.-Sun.) - Asilomar 2014 weekend
     

  • Nov. 15 (Sat.) - Pre - Thanksgiving Dance at the Mercer Island location (CCMI) will be a potluck dinner beginning at 6:00pm in the church social hall downstairs and followed by a 7:00pm (early start ) dance start to 'Best of the Bands' upstairs.  Between dances there will be a potted house plants table with many of your favorite plants for sale, presided over by David V., our Compleat Gardener.  The dance cues are provided hereSpecial rules for this dance: bring a favorite dish to share (pre-heated before you come). Please bring your plates and utensils and a serving utensil for your offering dish; we will have coffee/tea made for you {no use of the upstairs kitchen} (but no alcohol please).  Pot up a plant that needs a new home to add to the selection for sale {help raise a little extra money to have  more live music} and buy a new one to add to your collection and enjoy an evening of dancing.
    {This event replaces the Teacher Workshop that has been cancelled.}
     

  • Nov. 24 (Mon.) - Wishing to dance this week?  Join the Caledonians  at Phinney Neighborhood Center in the upper building from 7-9pm.  Victoria Johnson leads this group and you will see many familiar faces there.
     

  • Nov. 28 (Fri.) Vancouver, WA will have its "Werk Off Yer Turkey Class" Event the day after Thanksgiving at 7:30pm.  See their flyer for more.  They'd love you to join them if you are in that area.  Linda Mae leads this group.
     

  • Nov. 30 (Sun.) - Tacoma Dancers invite you to an afternoon of dancing at Tacoma Normanna Hall (corner of S.15th and MLK) from 4-6 pm.  Dances are favorites from this Fall, talked and walked once.  Join them for a fun time.  A great way to end the holiday weekend.

December 2014

  • Dec. 7 - 12 (Sun. - Fri.) - Last week of Fall classes for  Redmond, Lake Forest, and the U-District.  Check with your teacher to see if there will be any additional classes added this month.
     

  • Dec. 13 (Sat.) -  The Holiday RDSDS-Seattle Branch Ceilidh will be at CCMI beginning at 7:30pm.   Mark the evening on your calendar and work on your ceilidh act for this annual event.  The dance program is provided for your review.  We will have a silent auction so look around for a treasure that you would like to pass on, your checkbook to do a little holiday shopping and start creating a ceilidh act to share with us all. The ceilidh masters this year are Lesley Allan and Bill Wicheta who can help you if you have special needs for your presentation. (Everything from songs, poems, musical accomplishments to grand presentations with a group are allowed.) Music is 'Best of the Bands' for this event.  Bring a treat to share.
     

  • Dec. 14 (Sun.) - Redmond class ends this date with a holiday festive class. Contact Lea for further information.
     

  • Dec. 16 (Tues.) - U District Scottish Dance Class is having an End of Quarter Party, hosted by Eric & Meredith, at 8pm.  Food, socializing and dancing to a selection of dances learned in class. Let Rachel know if you have any requests.  Bring food or drink to share.  RSVP to Rachel or Eric and get their location from them.
     

  • Dec. 17 (Wed.) - Extra Class at Lake Forest Park location from 7:15 - 9:30pm. There will be some seasonal dances and some newer dances from the newer books.  This is an extra class, beyond the quarter, so the fee is $8 for members/$10 for non-members.

     
  • Dec. 28 (Sun.) Vancouver, WA is having their "Betwixt and Between Dance and Ceilidh" at the Columbia Dance Center, 1700 Broadway in Vancouver, with Linda Mae and friends.  More information about that here.  They'd love you to join them.  It starts at 2:00pm.  Call Linda Mae if you have questions.

January 2015

  • Jan. 16 - 18 (Fri. - Sun.) -  Mark your long range calendar for the Scottish Music Workshop in January, held at Ft. Casey on Whidbey Island.  You can read about it on their website.

 

 

  • Jan. 24 (Sat.) - Seattle Branch RSCDS Annual Robert Burns Evening.  There will be live music by Calum Mackinnon and Friends and a traditional celebration  to the "Immortal Memory of Robert Burns" with praises to the bard, the men and the lassies, and serving a taste of haggis, neeps and tatties to all who come.  Visitors for this notable evening are very welcome.  The event will be at the Congregational Church of Mercer Island and will begin at 7:00 pm. (note the earlier time)   Dances for this evening will be talked and walked so that you can give Scottish Country Dancing a try, so bring soft soled shoes and join in.   Two dances,  'The Minister on the Loch' and 'The Reel of the 51st  Division'  will be briefed only, for more advanced dancers.  Come join us!

 

 

February 2015

  • Feb. 14 ( Sat.) - Seattle Branch RSCDS Valentine's Day Dance Party will be at the Cedar Valley Grange.  Put it on your calendar. What a great way to celebrate Valentine's Day.   More about it after the holidays.

 

May 2015

  • May 1 - 3 (Fri.-Sun.) - Youth Weekend West in Victoria BC looks to be an exciting weekend for 2015.  Aimed at those 'under-30' or with feet that feel that young, there is a Fri. dance, and 'all ages' ball on Sat., and workshop classes on Sat. and Sun.   www.youthweekendwest.com More details later.
