 July 2014

  • Jul. 6, 20, 27 (Sun.) -  Redmond Summer Session Classes meets at the DanceWorks Studio, 16641 Redmond Way, Redmond, WA  classes will be from 6:30 - 8:30 PM, taught by Lea M.  Go to the Classes page for further information.
     

  • Jul. 10, 17, 24, 31 (Thur.) - Wenatchee Scottish Dance Classes will continue on Thursdays at the Irish Dance Studio   from 6:30 - 8:30 PM.  Classes page has further info.
     

  • Jul. 12 - 13 (Sat.-Sun.) - 20th Annual Skagit Valley Highland Games and Celtic Festival at Edgewater Park in Mount Vernon, WA, with Scottish competitions of bagpiping, drumming, fiddling, traditional Scottish athletics and Highland dancing.  Their website for more.
     

  • Jul. 18 - 19 (Fri.- Sat.) - Portland Highland Games at Mt. Hood Community College, Gresham, Oregon.  Musical entertainment, dancing, competitions, with Sat. being the major competition day.  See their website for more.
     

  • Jul. 20 (Sun.) - RSCDS HQ has its Summer School 2014  from July 20 to August 17 in St Andrews, Scotland. At the top of this page there is registration information and further links to the event.  Registration began in January 2014.   This year you can register on-line via their system. 

 

  • Jul. 20 (Sun.) - Redmond Summer Class at the DanceWorks Studio, Redmond, WA will be taught this date by Rachel and Dilip as they are giving us all the opportunity to review the dances that are chosen for the Rose and Thistle Dance on July 26 (See below).  Join them and welcome some of our English Country Dance friends for this evening.

  • Jul. 25 (Fri.) - SCD at a "Start to Fitness" Library Event, at  the Town Square Park next to the Burien Library, 400 SW 152nd St., Burien WA, at 6:30 PM.  This is a "taste of SCD" for audience participation to give it a try.  Experienced dancers are encouraged to come and help out and meet new people interested in dancing.  This event is weather permitting; they have an indoor alternative if necessary, but wee don't know where it is at this time. Rachel leads this event.
     

  • Jul. 26 (Sat.) - An invite to a Rose and Thistle Dance to be held at the Congregational Church on Mercer Island, 4545 Island Crest Way, at 7 PM,  joining Dilip & Rachel for an evening of English and Scottish country dancing.  More information at their website.  If you r.s.v.p. to their email found in our directory, not required but helpful if you can, they will send you a program when completed. And just a quick reminder, you may just show up that night, although a positive reply is always welcome.  Come join them in celebration.
     

  • Jul. 25 - 27 (Fri., Sat.- Sun.) - 68th Annual Pacific Northwest Scottish Highland Games and Clan Gathering at  the Expo Center, Enumclaw, WA (formerly the King Co. Fairgrounds).  Fri. from 5:30 pm to closing and Sat. - Sun. from 7:45am - to closing ea day.  See their website for schedules for RSCDS dancing and competitions.   There will be a new unique program on Friday evening:  Saltire and more about it.  There will also be a Ceilidh where this year's Chieftain of the Games Harold Drevecky introduced.  The Caledonians will be doing a SCD demo at 10:00 AM on Saturday.  If you are there, do support them.
     

  • Jul. 27 (Sun.) - TAC (Teacher's Association, Canada) begins  its Summer School, Candidate Course, Music Course and TAC Conference Weekend 2014, at University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, CO, from July 27 - Aug. 3.    Registration began Jan.  2014. Please check at their site to see if there are still openings (4/26/14)

  August 2014

  • Aug. 2 (Sat.) - Spokane Highland Games at the Spokane County Fair & Expo Center, 404 N. Havana St, Spokane.  Traditional foods, pipe bands, dancing and more.  See their website for more.
     

  • Aug. 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 (Sun.) -  Redmond Summer Session Classes meets at the DanceWorks Studio, 16641 Redmond Way, Redmond, WA  classes will be from 6:30 - 8:30 PM, taught by Lea M.  Go to the Classes page for further information.

  • Aug. 9 (Sat.) - 16th Annual Whidbey Is. Highland Games at Greenbank Farm, Greenbank WA, from 8am - to closing ceremony at 5pm.  See their website for more information.

  • Aug. 23 (Sat.) -  Summer RSCDS- Caledonian Garden Dance Party will be held at Anne Sherwood and Peter Hudson's home in Shoreline, WA. This will be a potluck style buffet with dancing in their lovely yard.  This year it is being celebrated on Peter's birthday!  Closer to time we will provide details to their home. Study sheets for the dances follow. Most of the dances will be the same as those in 2013.  Dances given here.  Festivities start at 12 noon until 5:00 pm. Save the date.
     

  • Aug. 28 (Thurs.) - Practice Ft. Worden dances at Phinney Neighborhood Center, 8:00 - 10:00 PM., Rm. 36 in the lower brick building, top floor.
     

  • Aug. 30 - 31 (Sat.-Sun.) - Hood Canal Highland Festival at Belfair State Park, 3151 Route  300, Belfair.    See more about it.
     

 September 2014

  • Sept. 12-14 (Fri.-Sun) - Seattle Branch RSCDS Annual  Ft. Worden 40th Workshop Weekend.  Go to  Fort Worden Workshop for details.  Save the Date!  Read about the Weekend.   Registration is happening from April 1 on.  Get yours in by the end of May.  After that time contact the registrar (on the Ft. Worden page of this website) to see if there are any remaining openings.

  • Nov. 7-9 (Fri.-Sun.) - Asilomar 2014 weekend
     

  • Nov. 14 - 15 (Fri. - Sat.) - Seattle Branch RSCDS Teacher Workshop begins with a reception on Friday evening, followed by a workshop during the day Saturday and completed in the evening with the Seattle Branch monthly dance party.  A brochure with registration form is attached.  This event welcomes teacher Mary Murray from Vancouver B.C.  with music by Lisa Scott of Portland, OR.  The dances are listed on the brochure with cues to be posted closer to time.   There will be some homes available for  those coming from afar, on a first come basis, so register soon.
