HAPPY NEW YEARS 2015

January 2015                              

  • TAC Summer School 2015 is now open to all Scottish Country Dancers for registering.  This year it will be held at Longwood University, Farmville, WA, USA. from Sunday July 26 through Sunday August 2.   Plan a summer vacation around this opportunity to enhance your basic teaching skills in SCD.  This event does fill up so consider registering soon.  The attached flyer will get you started.
     

  • Winter Quarter Classes begin the week of Jan. 4 - 10.
     

  • If you wish to dance with the Caledonians  at Phinney Neighborhood Center contact  Victoria Johnson who leads this group and get further information.
     

  • Jan. 4, 11, 18, 25 (Sun.) - Redmond's Winter Qtr. classes are at the DanceWorks Studio, 16641 Redmond Way, Redmond WA., from 6:30 - 8:30pm.   See the Classes page of this website for time, cost and contact info to reach Lea M. if you have further questions.  The qtr. runs through Mar. 29.  This class is beginning practice of special dances for the All's Faire Festival in June.  Talk to Lea if you wish to be on the dance team.
     

  • Jan. 13, 20, 27  (Tues.) - U-District classes are at the University Heights Building, 5031 University Way NE, classroom 108, from 8:00 - 9:55pm.  Teacher is Rachel P.  Open to all, new and returning.  Details on the Classes page of this website for rates and contact if you wish to reach Rachel. This is a fast paced class.
     

  • Jan. 7, 14, 21, 28 (Wed.) - Classes are at Lake Forest Park from 7:15 -9:30 PM. weekly (At the Northwest Ballet Center, 17171 Bothell Way NE, Lake Forest Park Towne Center.  Questions:  Call 425.488.7643)   Newcomers are welcome - your first class is free.  A partner is not necessary; wear comfy clothes and soft indoor shoes.  Enjoy fun, fitness and friendship.   Teacher is Elinor V.  Further information on the Classes page.   
     

  • Jan. by arrangement  (Wed.) - Classes may continue with Irene P.  in Mukilteo.  Please call or email her for further information if you'd like to attend and  for location directions.
     

  • Jan. 8, 15, 22, 29 (Thur.) - Wenatchee Scottish Dance Classes will continue on Thursdays at the Irish Dance Studio , 151 Worthen St, Wenatchee,   from 6:30 - 8:30 PM.  Classes page has further info.  Call Lesley A. teacher (509.663.3743) if you need further information or are traveling through the area and would like to join in.
     

  • Jan. 11, 25 (Sun.) - Tacoma Scottish Country Dance begins its winter season.  See their flyer for further information.
     

  • Jan. 16 - 18 (Fri. - Sun.) - Scottish Music Workshop will be held at Ft. Casey on Whidbey Island.  You can read about it on their website.

  • Jan. 24 (Sat.) - Seattle Branch RSCDS Annual Robert Burns Evening.  There will be live music by Calum Mackinnon and Friends and a traditional celebration  to the "Immortal Memory of Robert Burns" with praises to the bard, the men and the lassies, and serving a taste of haggis, neeps and tatties to all who come.  Visitors for this notable evening are very welcome.  The event will be at the Congregational Church of Mercer Island and will begin at 7:00 pm. (note the earlier time)   Dances for this evening will be talked and walked so that you can give Scottish Country Dancing a try, so bring soft soled shoes and join in.  Cost for the evening this year is $15 per person.   Two dances,  'The Minister on the Loch' and 'The Reel of the 51st  Division'  will be briefed only, for more advanced dancers.  Come join us!   For last minute review, here are the dances cues.

February 2015                           

  • Feb. 14 ( Sat.) - A Valentine's Day Gala.  Seattle Branch RSCDS Valentine's Day Dance Party will be at the Cedar Valley Grange in Lynnwood (20526 52nd Ave. W. {exit I-5 at 220th St., turn rt. onto 220th St. SW, go 1/2 mile, then turn left onto 52nd Ave. W and go .9 miles [these are directions for going north from Seattle]} and will be from 2PM - 5PM, followed by a potluck supper.  The grange has a wood sprung floor, ample parking and a large kitchen and dining area.  We will have live music to enjoy our daylight dance (tbd):  such a treat in the winter.  Don your festive apparel and join in our Valentine's Day Celebration.  The dances are provided here.

March 2015                                 

  • Mar. 14 (Sat.) - RSCDS Portland Oregon Branch invites you to their 36th Annual Workshop and Ball, to be held in Lake Oswego, Or, with musicians Deby Benton-Grosjean and Cynthia Soohoo, and teachers Roberta Gotfried and Bob McMurtry.  See their flyer for details  and to register.  Email  Linda Mae if you have questions.

April 2015                                    

  • Apr. 18 (Sat) - RSCDS Seattle Branch monthly dance at the Mercer Isl. Congre-gational ongregational Church at 7:30 PM. 4545 Island Crest Way, Mercer Island. Bring a snack to share at intermission with all your fellow dancers.
     

May 2015                                      

  • May 1 - 3 (Fri.-Sun.) - Youth Weekend West in Victoria BC looks to be an exciting weekend for 2015.  Aimed at those 'under-30' or with feet that feel that young, there is a Fri. dance, and 'all ages' ball on Sat., and workshop classes on Sat. and Sun.   www.youthweekendwest.com More details later.

 

  • May 16 (Sat.) - Annual AGM meeting at 6:30 PM followed by a special dance evening at 7:30 to live music  at the Mercer Island Congregational Church.  More later.

June 2015                                     

  • June 19 - 21 (Fri. - Sun.) - All's Faire Weekend with our Branch dancing at the event, led by Lea Maiolo. Redmond class has begun practicing for this event in Jan.  If you wish to perform with them, contact Lea.
     

  • June 27 (Sat.) - Annual Friday Harbor Dance Event .  More later.

     

July 2015

  • Jul. 26 - Aug. 2 - TAC Summer School 2015  will be held at Longwood University, Farmville, WA, USA. from Sunday July 26 through Sunday August 2. Registration opened in January of this year.
