RSCDS HQ announces the Summer School 2014 is open now for reservations.  It will run from July 20 to August 17.  This year you can register on-line via their system.  For our newer members, the following information about this summer school.

The Society holds an annual Summer School in St Andrews, Scotland. Approximately one thousand dancers from around the world attend this School each year to learn more about the dancing and dances, old and new; to enjoy dancing together; and to appreciate the wealth of Scotland's traditional music.


TAC (Teacher's Association, Canada) announces its Summer School, Candidate Course, Music Course and TAC Conference Weekend 2014, at University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, CO, from July 27 - Aug. 3, has now opened its registration to all online.  Click here for further information and to register.  April 2014

  • Apr. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30  (Wed.) - Lake Forest Park classes continue at Lake Forest Park at the Northwest Ballet Studio on the lower level, 17171 Bothell Way NE, Lake Forest Park Towne Center, WA. This is for all levels of dancers.  See Classes for details.  Class meets from 7:15 - 9:30 PM. Led by Elinor (425.488.7643).

  • Apr. (Wed.) - Mukilteo community has a Wednesday evening class with Irene Paterson.  Call her if you are interested (425.663.8977) for dates and times.

  • Apr. 3, 10, 17, 24 (Thurs.) - Wenatchee classes continue at the Irish Dance Studio, 151 Worthen St., Wenatchee from 6:30 - 8:30 PM. Lesley A. is the teacher.  Give Lesley a call if you need more info (509.663.3743) or to join in their class if you are travelling over there. 

  • Apr. 5 (Sat.) - Ceilidh Dance.  Join us for a lively evening of Scottish ceilidh dancing in Seattle's University district at University Friends Meeting Hall, 4001 9th Ave NE!   Bring your friends and family, or just come on your own for a fun night out. All dances will be taught and called. No experience needed. Live Music by Brandon Vance & Guinevere Saenger.  Doors open at 7:45pm, dancing starts promptly at 8:00pm. 
    Suggested donation: $10 / $5 for students & under-21

  • Apr. 6, 13 (Sun.) - Classes continue in Redmond, located at the DanceWorks Studio, 16641 Redmond Way, Redmond, WA.  Classes are from 6:30 - 8:30 PM.   Further details on the Classes page.  All are welcome. No classes on Easter Sunday Apr. 20 and Apr. 27.

  • Apr. 8, 15, 22, 29 (Tue.) - Spring Qtr. classes in the University District at University Heights Center.  8:00 - 9:50 PM  (See Classes for details on where, etc.)  The first half hour or so will emphasize technique fundamentals. Beginners should plan to attend from 8-9 PM initially, but will be welcome to stay later as their knowledge of steps and figures increases. Experienced dancers are encouraged to attend the entire class. (Please note that registration through Experimental College is no longer required.). This  session ends  June 3.

  • Apr. 11 (Fri.) - Challenge Class at Phinney Neighborhood Center is at 7:30 - 9:30 PM, in Rm. 7 upstairs.  You may arrive by  7:15 PM and can help arrange things, get your shoes on, etc. This class meets on the second Friday of each month.

  • Apr. 12 (Sat.) - Monthly dance for RSCDS Seattle Branch, dancing  to 'Best of the Bands' at 7:30 PM.   We will be at the new location:  Harmony Ballroom, 1407 132nd Ave. NE, #7, Bellevue WA. (Off of 132nd NE, behind CarQuest Auto Parts-look for them on the street, turn into driveway next to building)  Members $10 / Non-members $15.   Come and check out the new place.   Cues are now available.

  • Apr. 26 (Sat.) - RSCDS SW WA Branch presents its 5th Annual Dinner Dance at Saint Luke's Episcopal Church, 426 E. Fourth Plain Blvd, Vancouver WA, with a theme this year of "Blue Hawaii".  The  dinner at 6:00pm is followed by Dancing  to the music of Lisa Scott , Leslie Hirsch, and Linda Danielson.  Grand March begins at 7:15pm.

  • Apr. 27 (Sun.) - Special Tacoma Scottish Country Dance, featuring Ryan McKasson on fiddle and Colin Cotter on guitar at Normanna Hall (Sons of Norway) 1106 S. 15th St., Tacoma, WA, from 3-6 PM.  Pre-registration by Apr. 10: e-mail Meg- April dancing inquiry or call 253.759.0284 for inquiries or to register.  Cost:  $10 per person/$5 for non-dancers.  4-16-14 Word has it that there are still openings for this event; you can just show up for the evening at the door. IF you can, let Meg know you are coming - just as a courtesy!
    We now have the crib sheets for this event for your study.


 May 2014

  • May 2 - 4 (Fri.-Sun.) - YWW (Youth Weekend West) is to be in Bellingham WA this year and should be a great one.  Its focus is for young people at the workshop, with local teachers Eileen Hsu, Jim Maiolo, and Katherine Shearman from Vancouver, BC.  the Saturday Ball is open to everyone and will be from 7-11 PM on the WWU campus.  Calum from our branch leads the evening band.  Find out more at their website.


  • May 17 (Sat.) - Annual AGM meeting at 6:00 PM followed by a special dance evening at 7:30 to live music by Ryan and Cali McKasson at the Mercer Island Congregational Church.   The cues are already available for you to study, provided here.  More about the evening later.

 June 2014

  • June 26 (Thurs.) - Practice for Dancees at Puget Sound Crossroads on Saturday the 28th  at Phinney Neighborhood Center. Details later.

  • June 28 (Sat.) - Puget Sound Crossroads at the Grange Hall in Friday Harbor, WA.  This is our Annual event  with dance folks from all over Puget Sound and North coming together for a day of greeting, dancing, ferrying through the San Juan Islands or from across the strait.  It  is a joint venture with the Friday Harbor Dancers and RSCDS-Seattle Branch.  Music  by Calum's Ceilidh Band (Calum MacKinnon) with favorite dances from our local groups put together made for a great event. The dance cues are available here.

 July 2014

  • Jul. 20 (Sun.) - RSCDS HQ has its Summer School 2014  from July 20 to August 17 in St Andrews, Scotland. At the top of this page there is registration information and further links to the event.  Registration began in January 2014.

  • Jul. 26 (Sat.) - An invite to a Rose and Thistle Dance to be held at the Congregational Church on Mercer Island, 4545 Island Crest Way, at 7 PM,  joining Dilip & Rachel for an evening of English and Scottish country dancing.  More information at their website.


  • Jul. 27 (Sun.) - TAC (Teacher's Association, Canada) begins  its Summer School, Candidate Course, Music Course and TAC Conference Weekend 2014, at University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, CO, from July 27 - Aug. 3.  There is further information on this event at the top of this page.  Registration began Jan.  2014.


  August 2014

  • Aug. 23 (Sat.) -  Summer RSCDS- Caledonian Garden Dance Party will be held at Anne Sherwood and Peter Hudson's home in Shoreline, WA. This will be a potluck style buffet with dancing in their lovely yard.  This year it is being celebrated on Peter's birthday!  Closer to time we will provide details to their home and study sheets for the dances. Most of the dances will be the same as those in 2013, so you can look at these for review.   Save the date.
